Editorial

WE apologize to our readers generally and our advertising patrons in particular for the fact that our National Day issue came out later than expected. This was due to factors beyond our control. It appears that at the moment there is some sort of a war within Seychelles printing world – with a high level of staff pinching going on.

It is not clear who is at the moment the owner of Printec – nor is it clear who is the person who has taken a full page in the Nation newspaper advertising for staff required to launch a new daily newspaper in Seychelles – although for some times now, we know that Mr Marc Houareau of VCS has been talking about the need and importance of a daily paper for the Nation.

At the Seychelles Review/‘Le Revue Des Seychelles’ – we remain committed to publishing a magazine of high quality and standard commensurate with the level and quality of development, which is now on the horizon.

Under the guidance and direction of our publisher – Sir James R. Mancham – Chairman of Mahe Publications Ltd. who is the founding President of our Republic – our magazine will remain non-partisan but committed to promote National Reconciliation under the banner of the Seychelles First policy and philosophy.

As the Seychelles have an important geo-political dimension, we will continue to devote several pages to the inter-play of geopolitics in our region.

We have also decided to focus on one specific Nation with which we entertain special association in different future issues. In this issue, our focus is on India, which celebrates 60 years of its Independence on the 15th of August this year.

Our August issue will be focused on the Republic of Cyprus with which we have a special link through our association with its late founder – President Makarios III. The September issue will be focused on the Middle East generally and the United Arab Emirates in particular. The October focus will be on China – and the November issue will be dedicated to Russia. The December/January issue will bring out the festive spirit of Christmas and the challenges which will be before us in New Year 2008.

Finally, let it be known that work on our website – www.seychellesreview.com is well-advanced and should soon be operational.

Best regards
Roland Hoarau – Editor
