THE start of the industrial tuna purse seining activity in Seychelles in the early 80s was to greatly improve the economic situation of the country and to transform the physical landscape of Port Victoria; Seychelles having been blessed with a unique situation in the middle of rich tuna fishing grounds.

The Gulf States of Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are some of the most prosperous countries in the world today. With their wealth mostly attributed to the vast amount of oil reservoirs found in rich veins underground, the rulers of these states are well aware that the spoils of oil cannot last forever. They need to look towards the future.
